INTRODUCTION

Working for a healthier society, the relief of poverty and the advancement of the Public education

The discovery of insulin in the 1920s was a major breakthrough. Since then, there have been huge strides forwards in our knowledge of diabetes and the most interventions to improve the quality of people's life. It remain the case however that whilst people can now live more normal lives, there still no cure for diabetes. The number of people developing diabetes is increasing around the world. As a long-life disease, diabetes can have a profound impact on lifestyle, relationships, work, income, health, well-being and life expectancy. To minimise that impact, Save the Diabetic  Life (SDL) is helping to insure early detection, prevention, effective treatment and education to maximise the quality of life of people with diabetes. The impact of micro vascular complications are being reduced as they are being detected and treated at the early stage. Early detection and treatment prevent visual impairment. To improve the quality of life of people who develop visual impairment we are providing them with visual aids (see DRC), information, psychological support and some welfare aids. Women with pre-existing diabetes are supported to plan their pregnancies and to optimise their blood glucose control before and throughout their pregnancies and childbirth. We are providing support an structured education as well as drugs. In the UK there exist specialised health service providers, but refugees and asylum seekers have barriers such as language, culture, education and so on that prevent them to have access. We are the link and barriers remover.  Health or being healthy does not mean only the absence of disease  or illness. The public health and health development is impacted by a wider determinates. Health is gained, lost and maintained in the real world of work, home, leisure and day life. Factors like employment, education, housing,  crime and deprivation can significantly impact on people's health. For this reasons SDL is also providing support to people in regard to health determinates factors.
